The Bio Spot flea & tick control product line for pets include Bio Spot for dogs, Bio Spot for cats, Bio Spot for home, and Bio Spot for yard. The bio spot flea & tick control products are highly effective against fleas, ticks, and other insects.

The main ingredients of the bio spot flea & tick control products include a repellent insecticide (permethrin) and an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) – Nylar, which help protecting pets, homes, and yards from fleas and ticks. Permethrin is a synthetic chemical, which is widely used as an insecticide, acaricide, and as an insect repellent. Belonging to the family of synthetic chemicals called pyrethroids, permethrin functions as a neurotoxin, affecting neuron membranes by prolonging sodium channel activation. Permethrin is used in 18 similar products, including Bayer K9 Advantix, Defend EXspot, Hartz Control OneSpot, and of course Bio Spot flea & tick control products.

In bio spot flea & tick control products, Permethrin works by disrupting insect's nervous systems, depressing nerve cell function and eventually causing paralysis. The Nylar in bio spot flea & tick control products acts like an insect hormone and disrupts insect egg hatching and maturation of immature insect so they die before becoming adults; however, Nylar doesn’t kill adult insects.

Permethrin and Nylar in bio spot flea & tick control products get collected in the pets’ hair follicles, and are slowly released from there. They move around pets’ hair coat by diffusion and capillary action, and move from hair to hair as the pet moves. These chemicals become lethal to insects – fleas and ticks whenever fleas or their larvae or eggs come in contact with or feed.

However, there have been reports of these harmful chemicals in bio spot flea & tick control products, getting absorbed through skin and entering the bloodstream of pets, which can cause serious risks to health of pets. Some of the common symptoms of adverse effects of bio spot flea & tick on pets may include salivating, muscle tremors or twitching, dilated pupils, reddened skin, crying, etc.

Pet owners are cautioned that they should not use the mix of various types of flea & tick control products on their pets; it can be rather toxic and dangerous. They should consult vets before getting on to any of flea & tick control products. The bio spot flea & tick control products for dogs should not be used on cats; the higher levels of chemicals can be dangerous to cats, as they are extremely sensitive to permethrin. There are specifically different bio spot flea & tick control products for cats.
